Q. I have requested some changes to be made to my Website and you have completed them, but when I look at the Website on my pc the changes do not appear. Why is this?

 

A. You may need to perform a browser refresh. To do this, simply click on the 'Refresh' button or press shift + F5 if you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, or click on the 'Reload' button if you are using Mozilla Firefox or another browser.

 

Q. How long will the registration take ?

 

A. The time it takes to get initial results varies. This is very much out of our control. Some search engines take only a few weeks to include your listing, while others can take up to six months. Also, due to the unpredictable nature of search engines, and the ever growing submissions they are given, many sites are never listed. We will do our best to avoid this situation for you, but in the end, search engines are a law unto themselves. Resubmission of pages is always possible, though some time restrictions are given for how long to leave before re-promoting. What engines will I be submitted to ? Around 90% or more of all Internet users use one or more of the top 20 search engines. Therefore, we concentrate all of our efforts on promoting sites on these engines. These search engines also feed numerous other smaller search engines, and various search facilities on ISP homepages and so forth. This in turn helps to spread your site's details further. We also keep a watch on any new search engines that emerge, and will submit to them if they look promising. If there are any specific sites you wish to be submitted to, this can easily be accommodated. Is that it ? Website promotion Is an ongoing process. We provide an initial one-off promotion with all our Website packages, but you may wish to consider a monthly promotion budget if your Website Is not ranking as well as you had hoped. Rankings on search engines are never a sure thing. Search engines are actually huge databases spread out across several dozen machines. With backups, additions, deletions, updates and replications happening across all of them, losing even a large number of sites Is not uncommon. Therefore, you may find from that from time to time your site may disappear completely from it's usual position. If your site was once ranking well under a certain key phrase but a competitor has now taken that place, you may wish to be promoted under a slightly different key phrase, or rewrite your page copy to make that phrase more relevant. You may even just want your site to be placed on a new search engine that you have recently started using. We can provide help whatever situation you find yourself in. do you offer any guarantees? Search engine placement Is very much a hit and miss affair. Search Engines frequently change their ranking algorithms, and there Is no way to ensure high placement in all engines at all times. Also, sites are often dropped from search engine listings, for many different reasons. It would therefore be inappropriate for us to offer a guarantee. What else can I do to aid promotion ? Many search engines work on link popularity. This means that whenever your site comes up in a search result and Is clicked on, it Is given a very slight 'boost' in it's ranking. Therefore, whenever you see your site in a search result, click it. Get your colleagues, friends and family to do this also. Many search engines also give your site a very slight 'boost' depending on the number of sites linking to it. So, contact the webmasters of sites similar to your own and ask them nicely if they'll link to your site. Return the favour also if you want. Last but definitely NOT least, make sure that you plaster your web address and e-mail address on all correspondence, business cards, catalogues, compliment slips, shop windows, broadcast media, and so forth. This method of promotion Is far more effective and important that search engine promotion. Who's ever going to know that you have a Website if you don't tell anyone?
